AN INVINCIBLE SUMMER

CHILDE HASSAM PAINTING

Is getting old such a bad thing? I wouldn't want to go back and be young again and live all that angst over again...I certainly don't want to be young in this day and age. The world is a scary place for the young today. Besides, I've already been young.

The picture we have of an older person quietly seated in a corner, knitting, reading or nodding off to sleep is gone anyway. Today, people over sixty are into everything. They usually have a second career after they retire from the first one. The second one is usually more satisfying because they are not under so much stress to make money. They can find something they enjoy doing. I am eagerly looking forward to the rest of this earthly life and an eternity after that. I feel I am just getting warmed up.

“In the midst of winter, I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer.”
Albert Camus

This is such a sweet painting. Afternoon Tea is one of my fav meals as it is not a necessity- you just have the strawberries and scones with a pot of tea simply because you feel like it. A spot of decadence in a busy world. :-)

Thanks for visiting my blog. It appears that you like paintings. You should come some time to the Ann Arbor Art Fair (which started yesterday). Lots of paintings and everything else called art. We even bought one once--a watercolor sofa-sized painting of flowers, pond and a meadow. Very pastoral.

Hate to be disagreeable but I think of lot of seniors DO have to go back to work to make ends meet. Says so in my AARP magazine and I see them as greeters in my local grocery store. I'm not that sure they're happy in this new career.

I wouldn't mind being young again too. It hurts being older. Literally.

Dave, My Mama use to tell that any day you are above ground is a good day. I realize that not all older people are happy in their jobs but then again, neither are all young happy with theirs. I don't think age has a lot to do with that. But attitude does.
I do have more problems with health as I get older but I'm still glad I'm here.

Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a comment about my five palms sunset.

As we are growing older and nearing retirement, my dh and I are working and focusing on maintaining health insurance. We can and do live simply for the most part but we must have health insurance and so we work.

Mostly I'm thankful to God for bringing enjoyable jobs to us, but there are days I'd love to sit like the lady in your photo and not HAVE to go to work (and I do have that privilege in the summer b/c I am a teacher).

I'd sit and knit and read all day. What would you do?

Eve, I enjoyed your post. I think it is so hard to age gracefully in this day and age of plastic surgery and dare I say it? Worshiping youth. Thank you for presenting another point of view. I love all the artwork that you feature, and have enjoyed reading your other blogs--you are one busy lady!

Lovely painting, btw.

See the Southern 'Miss' before my name? Means I am a 'Woman Of A Certain Age.' {I'm not Southern, but I love that custom, so I use it, anyway!} And I have been and intend to keep on... just enjoying every minute I still have.

Yes, we all get old. Might as well come to terms with that, quite soon in the process. The process isn't going to slow down. Better be prepared to enjoy all we can, at every age.

Love you for doing these posts! You, who are still really young. Love you for being so wise, so soon. It's very nice for we 'Ladies of a Certain Age,' to read such!!! :-)
